China is known for their unconventional, traditional medicine. They use various parts of animals - even those in the wild and endangered - as cures for numerous health issues. Aside from that, they are fond of eating dogs that they have a festival intended for it: the Yulin Festival where thousands of dogs are slaughtered and served to the population. It seems they do not only favor dogs but cats, too.
In Guangdong, cat meat is a best seller for Cantonese people. They believed that consuming cat meat will help in maintaining the balance of yin and yang. They named the cat dish 'Long Hu Dou' or 'Dragon fighting tiger'.
Thousands of stray cats inside the cages are sold in a market in the said province. A kilo of meat is sold at 20 Yuan or approximately $3 while the brains and intestines are priced higher at $10 and $16 a kilo, respectively.
Chefs cannot cook cats that are beaten to death. They need them to be boiled alive, their fur and skinned bodies publicly displayed to show weight and quality. They believed that if the cat suffer more, it will taste better.
Their tastes are peculiar. Their culture may allow the consumption of cats but the manner of which they slaughter said animal is too appalling
