Spanish boy too honest that he handed his golf trophy after realizing he made a mistake on his scorecard !!

Yago is probably the world’s youngest most honest sportsman. He hands back his trophy after realizing a mistake on his scorecard.

For most people, winning is everything that they will even cheat just to come out on top. They forgot the saying, "Honesty is the best policy." If given the choice between winning and being honest, what will you choose? For this 7-year-old boy, the decision is easy. He will choose honesty.

Yago Horno Mateo is a young golfer from Andalusia. He joined a competition where he was crowned the winner with a score of 50 strokes. He later realized that his score had been incorrectly calculated - he made 51 strokes - so what should he do?

The Spanish boy handed back his trophy instead of being quiet about the error. He even wrote a letter to the Royal Andalusia Gold Federation explaining the situation so that the trophy could be "given to the player who deserves it"

Yago’s father said that he had received many messages praising the young athlete for his sportsmanship and honesty. 

His father explained, “After every tournament, I have a routine of transferring the results into a clean sheet of paper. When I added up Yago’s strokes, I saw that the numbers didn’t add up, I got 51 and not 50 – the score written on the card. 

Yago was shocked when the mistake came to light and made the decision to return the trophy. He was very worried about the reactions he will receive. He did not want everyone to think he was a cheat. The young boy also did not want his mum to know the incident. 

The Royal Andalusia Golfing Federation praised the actions of Yago. They recognized the ‘wonderful gesture of a player who, at a mere seven years of age, has proven to be a true gentleman’. 

Yago,as young as he is, proved that there is more to winning. He received the adulation of his peers and people older than him. He learned the most important thing of playing golf – honesty and a respect for the rules and his peers. !!!
